An access log is a complete list of all the files that were accessed by the guests of a given site. Each and every file that was requested for some reason shall be listed, so if you have one page with three embedded pics, one video and one embedded text file, for instance, the access log shall contain a total of 6 entries - one for every of the six files which were accessed when the website visitor opened the webpage. A log normally offers the file name and path, the date, along with the visitor’s OS, browser and IP address. Occasionally you may also find the referrer sites that sent the visitors to your website. The information which an access log file provides is in human-readable plain text format. It can be processed by special software on a laptop or computer and used to prepare reports on the overall performance of a site, independent of the web statistics that your web hosting server may have created.

Our in-house built Hepsia CP has a section focused on various logs and the access logs are one of them. As you sign in to your shared hosting account and go to this section, you will find a list of all the domains and subdomains you have. All it takes to allow the generation of access logs is to press a button which will be available next to every domain/subdomain. When the option is active, you will see a download link together with the file size so far, so you shall be able to save the file to your laptop or computer and view it or process it with some application. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect immediately, so if you no longer need one, you could stop it with only a mouse click from the very same section of the Control Panel. You will still be able to access the already created content by simply clicking the Download link.
